VEHICLE CARAVAN WITH RINO COMMUNICATIONS
Our Good Customer And Friend, Bob Brinkman, Had Invited Me Up To A Private Wilderness Camp To Field Test And Demonstrate A Unique Camp Cooking Set, Plus Have Some Wilderness Fun! This Created Another Great Customer-Interactive Field Testing Opportunity! After A Fun Day In Northern Wisconsin, Camp Fire Cooking, And Treasure Diving Under A Private Swimming Area In Their Private Lake, It Was Time To Pack Up And Head Back Down To Milwaukee.
Bob Had Suggested I Get Out The RINOs And We Use Them On The Long Drive Back To Milwaukee. He was interested in testing the range and practically for communications between vehicles during a road trip. As one of the camps' group leaders and a professional contractor, he finds himself caravanning with workers and camp group families. The FRS radios he has been using were those common low prices systems found at those large mass retail chains. These systems are of the toy class and he wanted something more reliable and with further distance. Ok, So He Armed Himself With The RINO 120 And I with a RINO 530. The RINO 530 Was Brought Along To Diagnostics, As The System Appeared To Have a Problem Locking Up.
The Radios Were Clear But The Volume In Both Systems Were To Low. I Had To Hold The RINO To My Ear To Hear Any Transmissions. The Technology Worked Well And We Were Able To Communicate With A Clear Signal. The RINO530 Did Lock Up And Stop Functioning During The 2 Hour Drive. This System May Have Been Defective And We Will Be Sending It Back To Garmin. The RINO 120 Worked Great, However, It When Through The 3 'AA" High-Grade Freshly-Recharged Rechargeable Batteries Within The 2 Hours. That Is Not Practical. So, We Have Always Highly Recommended Users To Purchase And Use A Genuine Garmin 12VDC Power Adapter! Since I Did Not Think We Would Be Using The RINOs For Vehicle Communications, I Did not Have the 12VDC Power Adapters Packed. They Will Now Be Packed In The Field Gear Bag From Now On - Must Always Be Prepared For A Moment's Notice!
What Could Bob And His Passenger See? They Could See Where I Was On Their Moving Street Map. When The Big Semi Trucks Came Between us, He Still Could Keep Tabs On Me And Make Sure I Was Still Rolling Behind Him Late Into The Night. The Drive Was Long In The Night, But It Was Fun And Made Time Go Faster As We Tested And Learn The Features Of The RINOs. The RINO 120 And 530, With The Street Basemap, Proved To Be Extremely Beneficial For Vehicle Caravanning! By Looking At The Map, Bob Could See The Path Home, Estimated Time Of Arrival, Where The Closes Fast Fuel And Convenience Store Was Located Along The Highway, and where I was on the road, and if I was still moving when he lost sight or track of my headlights.
