The Edge is a system that is contains a CPU, Operating System Software, And A GPS Receiver, Which receives GPS Satellite data directly from GPS Satellites circling the Earth. The real advantage to the new Edge is the direct sensors mounted on the bike for speed and cadence measurements. When the GPS satellite signal is lost, the Edge's computer will track the actual distance ridden through the sensor data. The Edge also has been given the new SiRF GPS receiver chip, which claims better weak satellite signal reception. And fitness minded have the ability to track heart rate with an optional wireless heart rate monitor; plus data analysis software to show fitness and logged traveled path track log feedback.

The Edge records the distance between each trackpoint fix and stores it in a large 13,000 Trackpoint Memory Location For later transfer to a PC for use with Garmin's many GPS-Enabled Application Software.

The Edge records an incredible amount of data from your biking activities. Now that you have this data, put it to work for you by transferring the data to Garmin's TC Application software for analysis and long-term storage. Once the data is transferred, your course is overlaid on a map, giving you a real-time picture of your performance at any point in your workout.

The map shows basic detail such as streets, bodies of water, etc. For additional map detail, you can purchase one of Garmin's MapSource® CDs and use it in conjunction with TC. If you're into mountain biking or cross-country skiing, for example, you might be interested in a CD offering topographic detail such as terrain contours, elevations and more

With Training Center, creating and scheduling your workouts is simple. TC even comes with several workout templates designed by the experts at TrainingPeaks, which you can transfer directly to the Edge.
