	The Binoculars Markings LEICA binoculars are designated "B" or "BA", "BC" or "BCA". 	The Incredible Leica Optical System The sharpness and brilliance of an image are determined by a variety of technical factors and interdependencies. Leica strives for excellence, from optical calculations to the selection and preparation of the glass, from repeated coatings to precision production and relentless quality control. Central criterion for excellent binoculars, however, still is the quality of the optical system. With the help of complex mathematical computations, the optical systems of LEICA binoculars are constructed in such a way that variations in individual lenses are eliminated. Even the binocular body plays a role in this optimization process: for example, a Reflection Simulation Program (RSP, developed by Leica) has led to unprecedented reflected light suppression and a resulting noticeable increase in image brilliance. One sign of this is the bright exit pupil, which in all LEICA binoculars stands out against the dark background of the eyepiece. Optical glass is meticulously selected for its suitability as an image distortion corrector and for maximum light transmission. To enhance this transmission, all inner glass/air interfaces are treated repeatedly with a special coating. A similar, scratch-resistant coating protects the outer surfaces of eyepiece and objective lenses. Your first look through LEICA binoculars will convince you that all of these efforts are worthwhile.
	The Roof Prism The roof prism is the heart of every pair of LEICA binoculars. As opposed to conventional porro prisms, roof prisms require an extremely precise production technique. One example is the absolutely exact 90° angle of the roof apex; even the tiniest deviation would affect the sharpness of the image. For this reason, the strict guidelines of Leica's quality control demand unimaginable precision. Should the prism be enlarged to gigantic proportions with sides 100 m (328 ft) in length, the maximum acceptable deviation from the right angle would be a mere 1 mm! The mirrored surfaces of the prism are vapor-deposited with a layer of pure silver. Processes using chemical silver or aluminum, for instance, result in a considerable loss of light. Leica innovation is also evident in another essential detail: An additional phase correction coating on the roof prism, exactly matched to the relevant wavelengths, offsets the phase difference of the light. This results in an improved image by greatly increasing contrast making it easier to distinguish details and thus producing greater brilliance.
	Leica's Exact Prism System Further proof of an innovative production technology is the roof prism. This construction offers one major advantage: binoculars employing it are far more compact than those with conventional porro prisms. This is an important contribution to the exemplary handiness of LEICA binoculars.
	Precision Mechanics and Ergonomic Design The new LEICA binoculars set world-wide standards not only in optical performance, but also in precision mechanics, handling and ergonomic design. 	True Internal Focusing - For Additional Protection/Reliability With LEICA binoculars, focusing - so often a tiresome task - is simply a pleasure. A light touch on the convenient central drive knob and the image seems to float into focus - quickly and smoothly. With less than one rotation, you can explore the binocular's entire range, from horizon to close up (e. g. at 3.25 m / 10.7 ft with the LEICA 8 x 32). Leica's true internal focusing means that only optical elements inside the binoculars move. Nothing on the outside moves. No air, no dust, no moisture can be drawn inside. There are no exterior guide surfaces to get dirty, no eyepiece bridges to bend and ruin the adjustment should the binoculars take a knock. LEICA binoculars are completely waterproof and even in the most rugged conditions - in temperatures anywhere from -25 to +55 degrees Celsius (-13 to +130 degrees Fahrenheit) - their performance is flawless.
	Precision Adjustment - For No Eyestrain The full enjoyment of binoculars depends to a great extent on precise adjustment. The two optical axes must be exactly parallel, the magnification of both optical systems must be identical and the focusing elements must move simultaneously and evenly. We may take these things for granted, but in practice they necessitate strict standards, expensive production methods and relentless quality control. If corners are cut here, the eyes must compensate for discrepancies resulting in eyestrain, discomfort and headache. With LEICA binoculars you can be assured of the precise adjustment for which Leica is famous: the complete coincidence of both images guarantees a brilliant three-dimensional vision without eye-strain.
	Durability The new LEICA binoculars have extremely sturdy all-metal bodies of diecast aluminum. Now, thanks to special nitrogen filling and an outstanding sealing technique, they are completely waterproof to a depth of 5 meters (16.4 feet). Durable, shock-absorbent, polyurethane armoring affords protection against bumps and knocks. This armoring has two more advantages: it absorbs the noise of bumping (good news for hunters) and makes the binoculars less liable to slide around should you have to put them down quickly (as on a boat). As a result of their special hard coating, the surfaces of the objective and eyepiece can also take their fair share of punishment. (Note: to keep them clean, simply rinse off the dust and dirt under running water.)
	The Practical Central Drive - Several Functions Combined In One Knob Adjusting a new LEICA binocular for differences between the user's eyes does not present a problem. The unique "combi-knob" technique (Leica patent pending) ingeniously combines the advantages of central drive and individual eyepiece adjustment in one control. After simply pulling the halves of the knob apart, each tube can be adjusted between at least -3 and +3 diopter to suit each eye. It's amazingly simple and convenient. There is no particular order of focusing, so there will not be any confusion with different rings, and the setting will not slip out while the binocular is being carried or used. Your personal diopter setting can be noted on a scale, stored and reset at any time without looking through the binocular. By pushing the control halves together you transform them into an easy-to-use, very handy focusing control (even while wearing gloves).
	The Eyeglass Wearer's Eyepiece LEICA binoculars always produce a full field of view, with or without eyeglasses. The considerable technical investment needed to make this possible is more than rewarded by the benefits to the user. With conventional binoculars, eyeglass wearers are often at a disadvantage in seeing a considerably reduced field. In LEICA binoculars, the exit pupils have been recessed to such an extent that eyeglass wearers enjoy the complete picture
	The Practical Sliding Eyecup The sliding eyecup developed by Leica is. far more convenient to use than conventional rubber eyecups. The eyeglass wearer pushes it in with the touch of a finger. Should the binocular be used by someone not wearing eyeglasses, it is pulled out again in an instant and locked into place for firm support.
