How It Works .....

The Optimus NOVA+ Is Classified As A Multifuel-Stove; Meaning It Can Burn Different 'Liquid' Petroleum Based Fuels; Petrol/Gasoline, Diesel And Kerosene.  Unlike Propane Gas, These Fuels Are Often Easy To Get In Most Remote Regions Around The World.  They Also Provide A Considerably More Powerful Heat Source In Very Cold Climates.

This Type Of Stove Is An Exceptional Tool For World Adventures; Including Backpacking.  During A Recent Fiji World Adventure, We Found Kerosene And Petrol Easy And Available In Bulk, In The Cities On The Main Island.  Easy Access, Super-Compacting And Extra Durability Makes It An Exceptional Tool For The World Backpacker.

Preparing Food On A Multifuel-Stove Is Slightly More Evolved Than Using A Gas Stove.

First, The Fuel Has To Be Pressurized, Which Vaporizes The Fuel For Burning; Making The Stove As Hot As Possible.  The Fuel Must Be Placed In a Pressurized Fuel-Bottle Then Pressurized By Pumping A Pump Attached To The Bottle.

Next, The Stove's Burner Must Be Preheated.  Preheating Involves Heating The Burner Jet To A Temperature That Causes Passing Fuel To Instantly Boil And Vaporized When It Passes Through The
Burner?s Nozzle.  Vaporized Fuel Burns Efficiently With A Blue Flame And A Hissing Sound.

After Using The NOVA+, Simply Turn The Fuel Bottle Over So The Word 'OFF' Can Be Seen At The Top Of The Valve Body.  This Places The Fuel Pickup Hose Above The Fuel In The Bottle, Causing Air To Be Sucked In By The Action Of The Operating Burner.  The Remaining Fuel In The Fuel Line Will Flow To The Burner And be Burnt Until Air Reaches The Burner; And Stops The Burner; An Enables The Pressure In The Bottle To Release.

Do Not Use Pans With A Diameter Exceeding 280 mm (11 inches).

The Weight Of The Pan Plus Food Should Not Exceed 4 kg (8.8 lbs.).

How The Fuel Bottle Works .....

The Optimus Fuel Bottles Come With A Fill-Line Printed On The Outside Of The Bottle.  They Are Designed To Be Filled 3/4, Leaving Space For Air.  When The Stove Is Ready To Be Used, The Air In The Bottle Is Used To Pressurize The Fuel; By Using The Hand-Operated Metal Pump, Which We Include With The Current Genuine Optimus NOVA+ Stove.

It Gets Very Hot Under The Stove; Place The Stove On A Firm Base Which Cannot Catch Fire!

Make Sure The Control Valve Is Closed Before Pumping Pressure Into The Bottle.

Press Hard Until A "Click" Is Heard.  The Quick-Connect Coupler Becomes Easier To Use After Several Connections.  To Maintain The Coupler, A Drop Of Optimus Lubricant Is Recommend In The Manual.  The Manual Indicates There Is Risk Of Impairment Of The Function Of The Quick Connect, Particularly In Very Cold Weather.

Fuel In The Fuel-Bottle Must Be Pressurized Before The Burner Will Work.  The Fuel-Bottle With The Pump In Place, Can Be Placed In Two Different Positions On Its Side; With The Word 'ON' Or 'OFF' In View On The Edge Of The Pump.

The Bottle Is Placed In The 'ON' Position When Ready To Use The Stove.  With The Fuel Bottle Filled To About 3/4 Full, About 25 Pumps Are Needed As Indicated In The User Manual.  About 40 Pumps If The Bottle Is Half Full Or Less As Indicated in The Manual.

The Manual States There Must Be Firm Resistance When Pumping To Reach The Stove?s Working Pressure.  The Air Pressure In The Fuel Bottle Is Crucial To The Heat Of The Stove.  When Preparing Food, Additional Pumping May Be Needed To Maintain Maximum Heat.  However, If Pumping Too Much, Resulting In Too High Of Pressure, The Flame Will Be Yellow.

Preheating Burner.....

The Stove?s Burner Must Be Hot To Enable The Liquid Fuel To
Vaporize At The Jet And Burn Efficiently.  Therefore, The Burner Must Be Preheated Before Using The Stove.  To Preheat The Burner, First Release A Small Squirt Of Fuel Into The Stove, Close The Valve, Ignite The Fuel And Allow It To Burn, While It Heats The Jet.

Preheating Time Varies Depending On What Type Of Fuel Is Used And The Temperature of The Surrounding Air.

Note; Gasoline Vaporizes More Quickly Than Kerosene And Requires Less Preheating.  Preheating Takes Longer In Cold Air And If The Stove Is Not Protected From Wind.

Start By Opening The Control Valve For Two Seconds By Turning The Control Knob Located On The Fuel-Line.  Note The Flame Control Fuel-Valve Is Integrated into The Burner Body.  See How Much Fuel Has Run Out Of The Line And Onto The Wick; Located At The Base Of The Burner.  With Practice And Frequent Use, The Preheating Process Will Become More Efficient.  ALWAYS PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

Running The Stove.....

Once The Preheating Flame Is Almost Out, Open The Control Valve By About A Quarter Turn.  If The Burner Is Hot Enough, The Fuel Will Vaporize And Be Ignited By The Preheating Flame.  The Flame Should Then Turn Bluish And Give Off A Light Hissing Sound After A Short Time.  If The Vaporized Fuel Does Not Ignite, Light It Carefully With A Match As Indicated In The User Manual.  READ AND UNDERSTAND THE USER MANUALLY ENTIRELY BEFORE OPERATING THE STOVE!

When The Stove Is Burning As It Should, Gradually Open The Control Valve And Make It Hotter. Maximum Heat Is Attained When The Control Valve Has Been Opened About Two Turns.

Clearing The Burner .....

All Fuels Contain Contaminants That Can Block The Nozzle In The Burner.  We Highly Recommend Using Extra-Refined MSR White Gas When Possible.

The Current Genuine Optimus Nova+ We Provide Direct From Optimus Have A Special Built-In Jet-Clearing Needle.  To Clear The Jet While The Burner Is Operating, Move The Optimus Multitool In And Out A Few Times Directly Under The Burner?s Base-Nut.  The Magnet On The Tool Forces The Needle To Violently Move Upward Into The Jet; Knocking Clear The Opening.

Getting Into A Simple Habit Of Clearing The Jet Before Starting To Prepare Food Yields The Best use Of This Outstanding Revolutionary Multifuel Stove Technology.  This Will Reduce The Risk Of The Nozzle Becoming Blocked; Slowing Down Or Stopping The Heating Process Underway.

Does It Really Work?

Shut Off Stove.....

To Help Avoid Fuel Spills, Shut Off The Stove By Turning The Fuel Bottle Over To The 'OFF' Side Position.  The 'OFF' Engraved Side Of The Pump Will Be Visible.  The Fuel-Line Inside The Bottle Should Now Be Near The Top Half Of The Bottle And Out Of The Fuel.  The Burner Will Now Be Sucking The Remainder Of The Fuel In The Hose And Burning It Off.  Air Will Be Drawn Into The Burner, Stopping The Burner.  The Remaining Pressure In The Bottle Will Now Be Released Slowly.

Note, The Valve Can be Opened Further During The Burn Off process... The Remaining Pressure Will Drain In About 30 Seconds.

LET THE STOVE COOL COMPLETELY BEFORE PACKING!

Packing .....

Remove The Fuel-Line By Pushing The Quick-Connect Coupler Towards The Pump And At The Same Time, Pulling Back On The Line Gently.  Place The Cover Over The Coupler To Prevent Dirt From Entering It!
