The barometer
functions keeps you informed to patterns and
changes; displaying current, absolute and sea level
pressures, temperature as well as the barometric
trend for the last 6 hours. The Escape203 features
also a pressure alarm. When activated, the alarm
will alert the user to pressure changes of 4
mbar/0.10 inHg over a period of 3 hours. A special
feature of the Escape203 is a "locking mechanism"
that keeps the altitude from changing when the unit
is used for weather monitoring purposes only.
Similarly, when the device is used as altimeter, the
seal level pressure stays constant and the
barometric changes only affect the altitude and
absolute pressure reading. The resolution of the
barometer is 1 mbar/0.05 inHg.

In 1957, the clinometer and the hand-bearing compass were completed by a hypsometer; an instrument for measuring the height of tress. The ceremonial donation of the first hypsometer to the King of Sweden, Gustaf VI Adolph, Took Place At The Inauguration Of Sweden's 50th "Forestry Week" Event.
A strong influence, in the design of the hypsometer back then, was the Chief Executive Of The Finnish Forestry Commission, Mr. N.A. Osara. A whole measurement methodology was created around this device that spread around the world together with the hypsometer. To a large extent, it was referred to as the Suunto system.

In the past and present, the most common type of solar cell was Crystalline Silicon. There are two primary types; Single-Crystalline Silicon and Poly-Crystalline Silicon. Single-Crystalline is more efficient but also more expensive to produce. Both are very fragile, and usually sandwiched between rigid sheets of glass, for protection.
More recent developments in portable solar energy solutions use thin-film technology. There are several types of thin film solar products on the market today. Currently most retail products found today are claming to use Amorphous Silicone.
A time-tested and very durable product, but not yielding the highest photovoltaic efficiency. Amorphous panels with less photovoltaic efficiency require more area (square inches) of panel size to achieve the same amount of wattage output, because they don’t make quite as efficient use of the available light hitting them. One advantage to this structure however, is improved power output in low light conditions.
Multi-Junction devices can potentially achieve a higher total conversion efficiency by capturing a larger portion of the solar spectrum. The most common multi-junction device is a multi-junction amorphous silicon, which has some of the best performance in all light conditions. One of the newest and most promising is a new proprietary multi-junction device made of Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) capable of higher photovoltaic efficiency than both standard amorphous silicon and multi-junction amorphous silicon - this means the panel doesn't have to be quite as large to produce the same power output. The only disadvantage is that the power drops off more in partially sunny conditions.

How Do I Measure Height Using A Clinometer? The clinometer must have a % slope scale. Note: Always measure height using as long as a baseline (distance from tree) as possible.1) Stand away from the tree at a distance where the top of the tree can be seen easy. Take the clinometer and look directly level at the tree trunk, noting a point on the tree at eye level, to use as a visual reference-point. 2) Measure the distance from the eye to the level reference-point on the trunk. A quality Instrument-Grade tape measure or Laser Rangerfinder can be used to measure this distance. 3) Using the clinometer, sight the top of the tree, and note the percent slope angle on the clinometer. 4) Now Sight the bottom of the tree trunk and note the percent slope angle. 5) The % slope associated with the top of the tree is then multiplied by the level distance to the trunk to get the height of the tree above eye level. 6) The procedure is repeated for the base of the tree to get the height between eye level and the base of the tree. 7) If the base of the tree is below eye level, the two heights are added to get the total tree height. 8) If the eye is below the base of the tree, the eye to base height is subtracted from the eye to top of crown height to get actual tree height. This method assumes that the top of the crown is directly over the base of the tree. Note: If the user doesn't have a laser to measure the eye level distance to the trunk, this method requires the user measure the tree from approximately the same ground contour.
