Seidel/Stubai
The SEIDEL Elektronik
team have been working on the development
and production of avalanche search equipment
since 1972. Know For Leadership In The
Field.
Conventional analogue
systems have been constantly evolving over
the years; adopting and combining newer
technologies available. Once digital
components were able to cope with
technological demands, analogue-technology
was replaced by DSP-technology at SEIDEL.
The SEIDEL product development and
manufacturing company was able to launch the
latest product of the PIEPS development
team. Now The Bugs Have Been worked
Out And We Present The Latest 2007
Evolutionary Models. |

PIEPS DSP Highlights
PIEPS DSP
MULTIPLE BURIED!
The Optimized
Multiple Search - The Absolute
Highlight Of The PIEPS DSP - is
based on a signal separation by the
Digital Signal Processor (DSP). A
multiple avalanche disaster is clearly
displayed to the user by the number of
symbols. Once the position of the
first victim has been located, the unit
should be kept still and the MARK button
being pressed for approx. 3 seconds.
This signal is now
"masked" and the PIEPS DSP starts its
search for the next strongest signal
automatically. The successful "masking"
is confirmed by a frame around the
symbol.. The search shall now be
continued as specified.
Incase of multiple
burials a overlap of the signals of two
or more beacons might occur. In
addition to that some older analog
beacons are sending a weak continuous
signal between the pulsing main signals.
Because of the different characteristics
of the signal formats, the signals
sometimes can not be physically
separated and therefore “masking” of
signals can be delayed.
|
|
However, in principle the
“masking” of signals works
and thereby considerably
reduces the search time in
the event of a multiple
victim search. The
SCAN function can be used as
a substitute or in addition
to marking. It
indicates the number and the
approximate distance of
victims and allows a
overview about the multiple
burial situation. |

PIEPS DSP SMART TRANSMITTER
The Smart
Transmitter Becomes A Life Saving
Advantage In An Emergency!!
The smart
transmitter is using a receiver
simultaneously in order to detect
signals of other beacons nearby.
Transmitter signals are synchronized in
relation to others and are transmitted
right in between the signals of other
beacons.
• No more
signal overlapping!
• The smart transmitter is a great
advantage in case of multiple burial
search!
• Faster and even more accurate location
of avalanche victims by using the smart
transmitter!
Two different
transmitters A(blue) and B(cyan) are
received by the receiver (magenta) like
one single signal. Caused by the
different periods of the signals A and B
periodical interferences are initiated.
A clear signal isolation of the received
signals will no longer be possible
because of possible modulation and
annihilation.
Transmitter signal
A of the smart transmitter is
synchronized and positioned in between
the signals of transmitter B in order to
avoid signal overlap!

PIEPS DSP
RANGE
+
Outstanding Digital Range -
One of the main
targets of the PIEPS development team
was to obtain the best possible “useful
range”. All other beacons
available on the market feature a more
or less elliptical receiver range.
Translation = this means low reliability
of the signal getting out to rescuers'
devices to detect
+ Best Of
International Standard - The
International Standard For Avalanche
Beacons 'EN 300718' Allows A Frequency
Deviation Of The Transmitted Signal Of
+/- 80 Hz. In the case of most
other receivers, a decrease of range is
the result.
For Practical Use Two Facts Are
Important:
-
Range in worst
coupling position
-
Receiver range
with transmitter signals and the
limit of the allowed deviation of
+/- 80Hz
The
PIEPS DSP was optimized in terms of
“circular receiver rang” (same range in
all antenna orientations) and constant
receiver range, over the whole frequency
range.

PIEPS DSP With Personal Instrumentation
This is the advanced model version with
integrated Personal
Instrumentation. The system can
be switched from 'TRANSMIT' mode to
'OPTION' mode by pressing a 'OPTIONS'
button three times to access vital
instruments. The user now
has access to vital information about
the environment.
-
Temperature;
Displayed In

Automatic Calibration Process
-
Altimeter;
Display Can Be Adapted to the
Prevailing Air Pressure; Data
Display Height Can Be Changed.
During A
transmitting Emergency -
Press And Hold For Approx. 3 Seconds, To
Switch System Back To 'TRANSMIT' mode
and re-transmits the PIEPS signal In An
Emergency. For safety reasons, the
system automatically switches to
'TRANSMIT' mode after two minutes.
It switches after 30 seconds in the
event of low battery capacity.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the system
remains connected via the safety strap
to the carrying frame and to the user's
body!
THIS IS A PERSONAL RESCUE BEACON
1
SHOULD BE WORN BY EACH INDIVIDUAL!
Auxiliary Connector
The system is equipped
with a world standard "3.5mm headphone
jack". This jack can be used in
the following ways:
-
Connection To The World Outside!
A standard stereo headset can be
connected.
-
The Results of the internal
self-test after switching on the
PIEPS DSP can be read and recorded
using a special interface adaptor.
-
Software Updates can be uploaded via
this interface. This service
is provided by appropriately
equipped PIEPS Service Centers.

PIEPS
DSP DISPLAY
A clear display,
simple, high contrast display - even in
direct sunlight! A MUST For
Handling During Stressful Situation!
The number of burials (1,2,3,4+) is
displayed next to the direction arrows
and the distance indication in the
display!
In 'transmit' mode
the operator is informed of the
remaining battery capacity as a
percentage. As long as a value
>=1% is displayed, the remaining
capacity is still sufficient - as
required by standard EN300718 - for a
further 24h transmission and a
subsequent 1h reception operation.

PIEPS DSP
ANTENNA
3 Antenna System!
First 3-antenna
beacon on the market. Extremely accurate
locating, irrespective of the position
and depth of the buried person.
The PIEPS DSP is
the first avalanche beacon using a
3-antenna system! The three dimensional
system works especially in the near
proximity especially in deep burial
situations and eliminates the influence
of the inclined flux lines.
The PIEPS DSP
allows exact pinpointing. Independent to
the antenna-orientation and burial depth
always only one maxima is indicated,
corresponding to the point of lowest
distance reading.
Any confusion in
the stressful situation in the event of
an avalanche search has been eliminated
by the to-date unique operating
technique of the DSP. This means saving
valuable time.
