Suunto t6 is the first sports instrument able to
measure the effect of every training session on
one's physical condition. Now Suunto launches three
Peripheral Observation Devices (PODs) that expand
Suunto t6 to a wireless sports area network. The
PODs are developed for measuring data of running and
biking and for communicating with a PC. They combine
the speed and distance information with the
physiological analysis of Suunto t6.
Foot POD is a speed and distance sensor for running.
A runner's stride length constantly changes during a
workout due to fatigue and variations in the terrain
or the runner's speed. Attached to a shoe, the Foot
POD measures the length of each stride using three
acceleration sensors, providing highly accurate and
responsive speed and distance information to the
user. The Foot POD is based on inertial sensing
technology, not GPS, and therefore can be used
anywhere, also inside. Combined with the heart rate
data from Suunto t6, it gives all the information
that is needed from running.
Bike POD is a speed and distance sensor for cycling.
It combines the speed and distance functions with
the detailed heart rate analysis and training
benefits of Suunto t6, making it one of the most
advanced training tools ever developed for bikers.
Linking a Foot POD or a Bike POD with Suunto t6 adds
a new set of functions to Suunto t6. In addition to
heart rate and stopwatch, Suunto t6 displays current
speed, distance from start and lap distance.
Furthermore, it stores lap times automatically by
the distance set by the user, alarms for too fast or
too slow speed, and offers an interval training
function based on distance. The complete speed
profile of the run or ride can be seen on the PC and
compared to altitude and to the physiological body
parameters, such as oxygen consumption or energy
expenditure. Thanks to the excellent accuracy of the
measured data, this opens new possibilities for
systematic training analysis and performance
testing.
PC POD is a wireless USB link for PC that enables
easy and practical downloading of data from Suunto
t6, Foot POD and Bike POD. The wireless transmission
makes Suunto t6 even more convenient to use and also
facilitates remote athlete monitoring applications.
Suunto t6 and the PODs use the new Dynastream ANT
transmission technology developed by Dynastream and
migrated to the Suunto t6 platform in a joint effort
by Suunto and Dynastream. Its main features are
small footprint, reliable two-way data transmission
and ultra-low power consumption.
