Stable Support True-Hinge Steel crampon enhances foot stability and minimizes heel drift, resulting in more efficient gait mechanics and less expended energy. 100% Waterproof Materials won't soak up water and freeze; straps remain easy to use in all conditions.   MSR worked with an orthopedic gait specialist, which happens to also be an avid snowshoer herself, in designing the MSR Women's Lightning and Lightning Ascent Snowshoes. #1) Women tend to have a shorter stride and walk at a faster pace than men.  To compensate for this, we made our women's snowshoes lighter and narrower, with a raised rear frame that allows for a more natural stride while reducing heel drag and minimizing fatigue. #2) The True Hinge crampon, rear cross-member, and crampon extension plate limit the rotational torque placed on the muscles of women's low backs, pelvises, hips, and feet, helping to combat pronation, or flattening of the arches. Also, because women generally have a narrower base of support relative to pelvis width, we designed our women's snowshoes to limit upper-body sway, resulting in improved biomechanics. #3) MSR made the binding and crampon smaller, creating a better fit, which enhances foot stability.  The result is a snowshoe that offers women greater comfort, ease of use, and performance than anything that's come before.
