True Story - A Classic Tale - August 2006 - This Last Weekend (Today Is The Following Tuesday), My Dive Buddy Bob Asked His Friend On The Pier To Grab His Digital Camera And Take Pictures Of Us Posing In Our Dive Gear, Off The Pier In Shallow Water.  After Taking A Picture, His Friend Placed The Camera In His Swim Shorts Pocket.

Well................Shortly After Forgetting The Camera Was In His Pocket, He Jumps Into The Lake!  At Which Point, Bob Asked Him.... Dude...!  Is The Camera In Your Pocket!?  Too Late For That Question!  Soaked; As Was Bob's Cell Phone; Also In The Pocket.  I Turn In Surprise When I Heard Bob Ask The Question, As I Was Readying My Dive Mask For Going Down.

Lesson - Never Take a Camera Near Water Unless It Is Well Protected In Some Sort Of Environmentally Sealed Protection.  Today, There Is One Consumer Camera Company Advertising They Have A "Waterproof" Camera. However, After We Purchased One, The First Thing We Saw When Opening The Box Was A Large Warning Card, Indicating The Camera Could Not Be Placed In Water Or Have Water Run Over It... It Could Have Light Rain Hit It But Must Be Dried Quickly And Not left In Heavy Rain... The Word Waterproof Does Not Legally Define Anything.   Make Sure All Digital Cameras And Any Cell Phone, Are Placed In At-The-Least One Of These Wonderful Element-Proof Bags!  A Note About Dropping - If The Camera Was In One Of Our Bags, It Would Have Been Safe. If The Camera Was Dropped Into 3 feet of water, it would have either floated or safely sitting at the bottom waiting for recovery.  If There Was Enough Air Sealed Into The bag With The Camera, It Would Have Floated. Cool Dude!

(Foot Note - I Was Not Paying Attention To What They Were Up To And Foolishly Assumed Everything Was Under Control - Things Happen - Try To Anticipate The-Obvious And Not-So-Obvious Accidents First, Then Plan Ahead And Follow Personal Rules And Guidelines - Try To Learn From These Real-Life Lessons - the inexpensive cost of one of our bags and the extra 30 seconds to use it, would have saved the cost of a $400+ Digital Camera!  I have no idea the cost of the phone (which was now unusable - the foolish people out there simply say, I got it cheap or its under warranty - no warranty cover this and now no phone service until you can get yourself back to town and to a opened dealer and wait for the replacement... all real world hassles that could have been avoided.  Ok I have tried to help those that cannot see the light here in why you need at least this level of protection for your valuables.  Snow, Heavy Rain, etc... life in general can destroy electronics, passports etc...)
