Since First Certified SCUBA Diver In 1976, And Activity Exploring And Working Underwater, I have experienced changes in my skills...... from the normal beginner to an advance, highly skilled professional commercial diver and underwater technician.    When I dive, I feel natural and comfortable with my gear, as if it was normal for me, a human, being in the underwater environment.   Within the last 15 years of my diving, I have come to realize a few important things about diving skills, gear and the diving industry.   You must fit your gear well, in order to enhance your underwater experiences and personal safety; and to forget the sales and advertising hype from sellers and manufacturers.

Find proper fitting gear that will enhance your level of skill, comfort and underwater experiences. Through the years, your body, attitude and skills change; and so should your gear.   You are investing in equipment to provide you with personal safety and great experiences.  If the equipment does its job, you made a good investment.  Each time you go out on an underwater adventure or work assignment, think of your equipment as part of the cost to partake in the event.   If you can function normally without restrictions and are comfortable during the dive, then the equipment you invested in has done its job; meaning you got back what you had invested in the equipment.  If the equipment last more than one diving event, then you have also benefited from more returns on your initial investment in time and money gathering the equipment.  After the first of second dive, consider your equipment to have paid for itself in providing the work you originally bought the equipment for.  Don't get caught up in thinking all the equipment should last a lifetime.   Equipment designed to fit the body should be updated and changed often as your body changes; to insure yourself a safe, functional, and comfortable dive.

Gear evaluation and updates should be the normal part of your watersports endeavors; to  keep your gear matched to your skill level and body condition.  You may find your gear uncomfortable and just assume, or worst, have been told that's just  normal.  Don't be uncomfortable, your skills will suffer as well as your personal experiences underwater and safety!   Look for replacement gear more suited to your bodies changes and skill changes.  Enjoy Exploring The Underwater World.
